QUETTA: The government of Balochistan has decided to retrieve official vehicles from unauthorised users as part of nationwide austerity measures.
The decision was taken at a high-level review meeting chaired by Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat.
The meeting approved several steps to ensure transparent and efficient use of public resources.
Officials said all government vehicles currently in use by unauthorised individuals will be taken back immediately.
The directive applies to former governors, former chief ministers, former ministers, ex-lawmakers, retired officials, and other unauthorised users.
Authorities warned that strict action will be taken against anyone who fails to comply.
The chief minister ordered a comprehensive audit of all government vehicles.
He directed that fuel supply be restricted only to verified and authorised vehicles to curb misuse of state resources.
Sources said all government departments have been instructed to compile details of vehicles under their use.
Officials will begin a phased recovery process based on the collected data.
The meeting also decided to ban the use of official vehicles after office hours.
Officers will need prior approval from the competent authority for official use beyond working hours.
Violations will trigger disciplinary action against the concerned officials.
The move has drawn a positive response from the public.
Experts say complaints about unauthorized use of official vehicles and excessive fuel consumption have persisted for years in Balochistan.
They add that effective implementation of retrieval, audit, and monitoring measures can reduce government spending and improve transparency in the use of public resources.
