QUETTA : In a comprehensive bid to tackle the province’s educational deficit, the Balochistan government has launched a multi-faceted development programme targeting infrastructure, technology, and student welfare. Chief Secretary Shakeel Qadir Khan, presiding over a review meeting on education projects, stated that providing quality education is now the provincial government’s “top priority.”
The flagship initiative involves the immediate construction of buildings for 200 shelter-less schools, a critical step in addressing fundamental infrastructure gaps. Khan emphasized these efforts are vital to “reducing the educational crisis,” restoring public trust, and ensuring the timely completion of development agendas.
Beyond bricks and mortar, the plan incorporates modern academic necessities. A significant allocation of Rs. 250 million has been approved this year to establish modern IT and science labs in high and higher secondary schools. This investment aims to provide students with practical, research-oriented learning aligned with contemporary demands.
Addressing student health and logistical needs, the government has initiated a Rs. 500 million project to construct and rehabilitate clean drinking water points, toilets, and handwashing stations across schools. Furthermore, a new school transport programme is deploying 142 buses province-wide to improve accessibility.
The meeting was informed that parallel efforts by the Balochistan Education Foundation have already led to the establishment of 664 new schools, enrolling over 43,000 children. Chief Secretary Khan asserted that this holistic approach—encompassing infrastructure, technology, health, and access—is designed to significantly improve literacy rates and the overall quality of education, thereby offering children in Balochistan substantially better learning opportunities for the future.
Meanwhile the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leaders declared on Wednesday that holding local government LG polls in Quetta is essential for solving citizens’ grassroots issues, as the party formally launched its campaign for the upcoming elections.
Speaking at a ceremony to issue party tickets for Zarghun Town constituencies PB-41, PB-42, and PB-43, senior leaders vowed the PPP would contest fully and emerge victorious.
