In a significant move to enhance healthcare services across the province, the Balochistan government has reactivated 164 Basic Health Units (BHUs), Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti announced during a high-level review meeting of the provincial health department.
Officials briefing the meeting revealed that instead of constructing new buildings, the government has repurposed available public infrastructure to operationalize the BHUs. These units are expected to provide treatment to over 1.2 million patients annually in remote and underserved areas.
Chief Minister Bugti emphasized that, for the first time, the province is introducing digital reforms in the healthcare sector. “We are delivering equal access to medical facilities from cities to villages,” he said. “The provincial government is not just building structures, but establishing a functioning and responsive healthcare system.”
