QUETTA: The provincial government has imposed a province-wide ban on the use of plastic bags in an effort to protect the environment and improve urban cleanliness. In this sense, the decision was announced during a high-level meeting of the Safa Quetta Integrated Solid Waste Management Project, presided by Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti.
In this sense, approximately 1,000 tons of garbage are being lifted daily from 84 wards of Quetta city. Since the launch of the initiative , a total of 281,000 tons of solid waste has already been collected and properly disposed of.
Furthermore, the CM Bugti focused on that the provincial government is determined to transform Quetta into a model city for environmental improvement and sustainable urban management. He stated that the ban on plastic bags will play an important role in keeping the provincial capital clean, safeguarding the environment from harmful pollution caused by non-biodegradable materials.
Moreover, CM Bugti mentioned that the effectiveness of government initiatives depends largely on the cooperation of the public.
On the other hand, provincial government views this step as part of a broader vision to address environmental challenges and modernize urban services in Balochistan.
