Balochistan holds Afghan refugees deportations, awaits federal decision

QUETTA: The Balochistan government has directed law enforcement authorities to refrain from taking any action against registered Afghan refugees until the federal government issues clear instructions.

According to sources in the provincial Home Department, the official stay of registered Afghan refugees in Pakistan expired on June 30. However, the federal government has yet to make a final decision regarding their repatriation.

Following directives from the Ministry of States and Frontier Regions (SAFRON) and the Commissionerate for Afghan Refugees, the Balochistan Home Department has issued instructions to the Inspector General of Police, Commissioners, Deputy Commissioners, and relevant law enforcement agencies, advising them not to harass or take action against registered Afghan nationals.

Currently, an estimated 305,000 registered Afghan refugees reside across Balochistan, including in ten officially designated refugee camps and several urban areas.
