QUETTA: The Balochistan High Court on Wednesday issued show-cause notices to the provincial government over frequent power outages caused by the Quetta Electricity Supply Company (QESCO).
A two-member bench comprising Chief Justice Rozi Khan Breach and Justice Sardar Ahmed Halimi directed the notices to the Chief Secretary and the Chief Minister’s Principal Secretary while hearing a petition against province-wide loadshedding.
Rajab Khan Buleidi, vice chairman of the Balochistan Bar Council, filed the constitutional petition against the Chief Executive Officer of QESCO and other officials.
The Additional Attorney General submitted written replies on behalf of the Chief Secretary, the CM’s Principal Secretary, and the Secretary for Energy. However, the court rejected the replies as unsatisfactory, noting that the officials had attempted to shift responsibility onto the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra).

The petitioner’s counsel criticized QESCO’s report, calling it a “manipulation of figures” and “disconnected from the ground reality.”
The court scheduled the next hearing for October 28.
