Balochistan Health Minister suspends pharmacy staff

QUETTA: Balochistan Health Minister Dr Bakht Kakar carried out a surprise visit to Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Hospital, Quetta, and suspended several pharmacy staff members over alleged irregularities.

In this regard, the minister closely examined the hospital’s pharmacy operations and patient service facilities.

Furthermore, Dr Kakar also inspected other hospital departments, engaging with patients and attendants to review the quality of treatment. He instructed the hospital administration to ensure uninterrupted supply of medicines, availability of doctors during duty hours, and prompt redressal of patients’ complaints.

The minister announced that similar unannounced visits would continue across the province in order to identify systemic weaknesses and enforce accountability. “Our priority is to make hospitals patient-friendly, transparent, and responsive to the needs of the people,” he added.

Public health experts and civil society groups welcomed the move, terming it a positive step towards reforming the healthcare system in Balochistan, which has long suffered from resource shortages and administrative challenges.
