QUETTA: The Balochistan cabinet, under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti, approved multiple public welfare initiatives, including recruitment on vacant posts across all departments and the launch of the Green Tractor Scheme.
Government spokesperson Shahid Rind briefed the media on the cabinet’s decisions, announcing that the provincial government would revive non-functional hospitals in certain areas with the support of the Pakistan Army. The cabinet also approved the provision of agricultural tractors to farmers at a 50% subsidy.
In accordance with a Supreme Court ruling, the cabinet endorsed the upgradation of trained crop reporters in the Agriculture Department from Grade 6 to Grade 11. To improve the energy sector, the cabinet formed a high-level committee — comprising the finance secretary and energy secretary — to conduct technical and financial assessments of 150-kilowatt solar power projects in Lasbela and Hub.
The cabinet approved the establishment of the Balochistan Mineral Development Fund, aiming to boost resource management. It also endorsed the Balochistan Contribution Pension Scheme Rules 2025, intended to control the rise in non-development expenditure in the future.
To promote digital education, the cabinet decided to further enhance and streamline the province’s laptop policy. It approved recruitment on vacant posts in all departments, including the Sports and Youth Affairs Department.
In a major step for law and order, the cabinet approved the establishment of two new police stations in Kohlu, additional security for Mangi Dam, and the setup of Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) stations in Rakhni and Barkhan. It also sanctioned jurisdictional adjustments of CTD operations in Loralai and Sibi.
The cabinet amended the arms license rules and ended the provision of free exemptions. In response to a federal government request, the cabinet also revoked the lease of 20 acres of land previously allotted to a private medical institute.
To advance women’s rights, the cabinet appointed Kiran Baloch as the new Chairperson of the Balochistan Commission on the Status of Women.
In the education sector, the cabinet approved the adjustment of internee teachers in Makran and Kech. It also approved proposed rules for the Excise and Taxation Department and passed amendments to the Journalists’ Welfare Rules for the betterment of the media community.
