QUETTA: The Government of Balochistan has launched a landmark initiative to promote and modernise the province’s fisheries sector.
The provincial government signed a five-billion-rupee Memorandum of Understanding with private sector partners to implement the project.
Under the agreement, authorities will establish a state-of-the-art shrimp farming facility in the Damb area of Hub, using modern aquaculture techniques.
The project aims to enhance Balochistan’s fisheries sector, generate thousands of jobs, and increase the province’s seafood exports, particularly shrimp and related products.
Earlier this week, a “historic” agreement was signed between the Balochistan Board of Investment and Trade (BBoIT) and the provincial Fisheries Department in a ceremony at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat on Tuesday, a move hailed as a milestone for the province’s economy.
Chief Minister Mir Sarfaraz Bugti, who presided over the event, described the pact as the practical realization of a long-standing dream for Balochistan. He praised the efforts of the teams involved and highlighted the vast investment opportunities in key sectors like fisheries, agriculture, and mining.
