QUETTA: The Metropolitan Corporation Quetta has officially declared two of the city’s busiest commercial arteries as restricted zones for handcarts and parking in order to ease traffic flow and ensure pedestrian safety in the provincial capital.
According to two separate notifications issued today by the Commissioner Quetta, Qandhari Bazaar Quetta, Liaquat Bazar, Jinnah Road, and Prince Road has been declared a No Cart Zone” with an immediate effect.
This decision is part of efforts to eliminate traffic bottlenecks and enhance public safety along the busy route.
Qandhari Bazaar Quetta – The section from Manan Chowk to Bacha Khan Chowk has been designated both a “No Parking Zone” and “No Cart Zone”, aimed at ensuring smoother vehicular movement and easier pedestrian navigation in the congested market area.
Under the notifications, street vendors using carts will no longer be allowed to operate in the notified zones.
The orders have been issued under the Municipal Services Rules of 1962, granting the Commissioner authority to regulate such matters for public convenience and urban order.
The Metropolitan Corporation has urged the public and business owners to cooperate with the new directives, emphasizing that these reforms are necessary to restore order and safety in the city’s busiest commercial hubs.

Yesterday, a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti, had decided to declare the central area of Quetta as a “Downtown” zone in order to streamline traffic in the city. A limited number of electric cars would be operated in the “Downtown” area instead of rickshaws.
