QUETTA: Following a tragic suicide blast near Shahwani Stadium that killed 15 people and injured 32, the Balochistan government has announced a comprehensive compensation package for the victims’ families.

Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Muhammad Hamza Shafqaat confirmed the details at an emergency press conference. Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti has approved Rs. 1.5 million for the family of each deceased victim, Rs. 500,000 for each injured individual, and an additional Rs. 200,000 for any minor children affected by the attack.

The explosion occurred at approximately 9:45 PM on Sariab Road, about 500 meters from the exit point of a public rally that had concluded earlier. Shafqaat stated that stringent security measures, including 120 police personnel, had prevented the attacker from reaching the main crowd, forcing the detonation in a nearby poorly lit area.

He revealed that the district administration had issued a permit for the rally under pressure from organizers, despite having previously denied it due to credible security threats. A police constable, noted as the sole breadwinner for his family, was among those who lost their lives in the attack.
