QUETTA: The Government of Balochistan has approved the establishment of a Climate Change Fund aimed at addressing the growing environmental challenges facing the province.
Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Ahmed Bugti stated that Balochistan is highly vulnerable to the impacts of climate change, and this fund will be a key tool in responding to those threats.
He emphasized that the government is committed to taking concrete steps to ensure a healthy and safe environment for its citizens.
He added that the protection of the natural ecosystem is now a core priority in the government’s broader efforts to achieve sustainable development goals.
Mir Sarfraz Bugti also highlighted that the Climate Change Fund is a significant step in realizing this vision. Environmental experts have welcomed the initiative, praising it as a timely and important move by the provincial government.
Over the last 20 years, Balochistan has witnessed a sharp increase in climate-related challenges, including prolonged droughts, flash floods, desertification, and rising temperatures.
These environmental shifts have severely impacted agriculture, water availability, and rural livelihoods. Many districts, particularly in central and southern Balochistan, have suffered from reduced rainfall and shrinking groundwater resources, forcing migration and deepening poverty.
Experts have repeatedly warned that if urgent climate adaptation and mitigation measures are not taken, Balochistan could face an irreversible ecological crisis.
