QUETTA: In a significant move to bolster its fight against drug trafficking, the Balochistan Excise, Taxation, and Anti-Narcotics Department has launched a series of advanced training programs for its officers, conducted in collaboration with the International Narcotics & Law (INL) agency.
This strategic initiative is designed to equip law enforcement personnel with modern, specialized skills essential for dismantling sophisticated drug networks. The comprehensive curriculum focuses on four critical areas: conducting intelligence-based operations, employing scientific investigation techniques, strengthening legal prosecution cases, and ensuring the rigorous implementation of the Anti-Narcotics Act.
The program marks a pivotal step towards professionalizing the province’s counter-narcotics forces. By moving beyond traditional policing methods, the department aims to enhance its capacity to investigate complex drug crimes, from initial intelligence gathering to securing convictions in court. The emphasis on scientific evidence and legal procedures is expected to significantly increase the success rate of prosecutions and act as a stronger deterrent to traffickers.
A senior official from the Excise Department stated that the training is a core component of the government’s broader strategy to create a drug-free Balochistan. “The threat of drug trafficking requires a sophisticated and multi-faceted response. This collaboration with INL provides our frontline officers with the latest knowledge and tools to effectively combat this menace and protect our communities, particularly our youth,” the official remarked.
The initiative has been welcomed as a crucial investment in the province’s security and public health infrastructure. Officials confirmed that this capacity-building partnership with international experts will be sustained, with plans for regular follow-up sessions to ensure skills remain current. The program underscores a renewed and coordinated effort to target the root causes and supply chains of the illegal drug trade, safeguarding the future of the province.
Meanwhile in a separate move to modernizing law enforcement, the Balochistan Police and the Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Tuesday to foster cooperation in the field of modern technology. The signing ceremony was held under the chairmanship of Balochistan Inspector General of Police (IGP), Muhammad Tahir
