Balochistan digital treasury system goes operational

QUETTA: The Balochistan Digital Treasury System has officially gone operational, marking a major step toward modernising the province’s financial management.

The initiative aims to ensure greater transparency, efficiency, and accountability in government transactions through real-time digital monitoring and automated processes.

The development came during an important meeting of the Finance Department chaired by Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfaraz Bugti. Secretary Finance Imran Zarkoon gave a detailed briefing on the new system and the restructuring of financial operations.

As part of the reforms, the Directorate of Treasury has been dissolved, and more than 250 employees have been transferred to the Services and General Administration Department (S&GAD).

Chief Minister Bugti said that after streamlining additional staff in the Chief Minister’s Secretariat, the process of administrative reforms has now been extended to the Finance Department. He added that the reorganisation of daily operations in the Directorate of Treasury would result in an annual saving of Rs 200 million.

“The income generated from people’s taxes is a sacred trust of the public,” Bugti said, emphasising that the complete digitalisation of the treasury system would enhance transparency and accountability in provincial financial management.

He described the online transfer of financial payments as a revolutionary step toward eliminating corruption, ensuring that all government disbursements are processed efficiently and without human interference.

“The digital system will remove unnecessary delays and manual intervention in official payments,” he added, noting that Balochistan’s financial governance was now being aligned with modern administrative and technological standards.

According to the Chief Minister, digitalisation would ensure effective utilisation of provincial resources and strengthen fiscal discipline.
