Balochistan blacklists 56 contractors over delays, substandard road work

QUETTA: The Balochistan government has allocated Rs27 billion for the construction and rehabilitation of 27 major roads during the current fiscal year, as revealed during a high-level review meeting chaired by Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti.

The meeting, held to assess the performance of the Department of Communications and Works, included briefings on critical infrastructure projects such as the Hanna Road and the Sibi-to-Tharri Kohlu Road. The Secretary of Communications informed the chief minister that both roads are on track to be completed within the current year.

Chief Minister Bugti issued strict directives to ensure the timely and high-quality completion of all ongoing road projects. He expressed dissatisfaction over substandard work and undue delays, revealing that 56 construction firms have been blacklisted for poor performance and project stalling.

“We will no longer tolerate the culture of advance payments or unnecessary financial revisions,” said CM Bugti. “Any officer who authorizes advance payments will face disciplinary action.”

He emphasized that the timely release of resources is the responsibility of the concerned departments and should not become a hurdle in the progress of development projects.

The Chief Minister also expressed strong displeasure over delays in the Zamri Road project, warning that if work does not begin within 20 days, strict action will be taken against those responsible.

The session reflects the provincial government’s renewed focus on infrastructure development, transparency, and accountability to ensure that public funds are used efficiently and effectively.
