QUETTA: The Balochistan Provincial Assembly has taken a firm stand against what it described as a defamatory and misleading social media campaign operating under the name “Balochistan Leaks.”
Acting on a clear ruling by Speaker Abdul Khaliq Khan Achakzai, the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) was summoned to initiate legal proceedings against those involved.
The House unanimously declared that it would not tolerate character assassination, false allegations, or blackmail against elected representatives, and vowed to bring those responsible to justice.
The issue was raised by Opposition Leader Younas Aziz Zehri, who said the page was systematically targeting members of the assembly to damage democratic institutions.
Several lawmakers echoed these concerns, calling for transparent investigations into fake and anonymous social media accounts spreading unverified claims.
Speaker Achakzai emphasized that while accountability is welcome, baseless accusations are unacceptable, and warned that the assembly would not bow to blackmail.
NCCIA Additional Director Tariq Khan informed the House that preliminary action had begun under relevant cybercrime laws, adding that arrests in defamation cases require court approval.
The Speaker directed authorities to fully expose the operators of the page and ensure strict legal punishment, stating that no individual would be spared.
Meanwhile The National Party (NP) has strongly condemned the ongoing campaign under the banner of “Balochistan Leaks,” describing it as a deliberate plot aimed at sabotaging the province’s peaceful and democratic political environment. The campaign, according to the party, is designed to create public distrust against elected representatives and destabilize the political scenario in Balochistan.
The provincial spokesperson stated that a well-orchestrated plan has targeted members of the provincial assembly, particularly NP’s central leader Rehmat Saleh Baloch, by levying baseless corruption allegations to damage their credibility.
He emphasized that the claims presented in the fake videos, created using modern technology and artificial intelligence, are fabricated, misleading, and contrary to facts.
