Centre Rebuilds 5,000 Homes for Flood Victims in Balochistan ISLAMABAD: In a major step toward the rehabilitation of flood-affected families in Balochistan, the Government of Pakistan has completed the construction of 5,000 houses and accelerated work on an additional 27,000 units under the Balochistan Housing Reconstruction Programme. Launched under the Ministry of Planning, Development & Special Initiatives, the programme aims to provide safe, durable, and dignified housing to communities impacted by climate-induced disasters. The initiative is not only rebuilding homes but also empowering local communities through job creation and inclusive development. Key features of the programme include the reconstruction of homes in flood-affected regions, provision of basic facilities, and active engagement of local labor forces. This approach has helped restore shelter and livelihood for thousands while stimulating economic activity in remote areas. Officials said the project represents more than just emergency relief—it serves as a practical embodiment of sustainable development. The Balochistan Housing Reconstruction Unit, which oversees the initiative, has worked closely with local communities and adopted transparent procedures and modern construction standards to ensure efficiency and accountability. As a result of the unit’s efforts, housing construction is progressing rapidly, and public trust in state institutions has grown significantly. According to a spokesperson from the Planning Ministry, Federal Minister Ahsan Iqbal personally directed the programme, emphasizing the principles of dignity, transparency, and long-term sustainability in all rehabilitation efforts. This government-led initiative stands as proof that post-disaster recovery should not stop at temporary relief. Instead, it should open doors to development, employment, and renewed hope for the affected regions of Pakistan.
