SYDNEY: Ahead of the upcoming series against Pakistan, the Australian cricket team faces uncertainty regarding the availability of several key players.
Although Australia’s Chairman of Selectors, George Bailey, has expressed optimism about the fitness of a few players, doubts persist over the full squad’s confirmation for the tour of Pakistan.
According to details, George Bailey stated that fast bowler Josh Hazlewood and middle-order batsman Tim David are expected to be fit by the T20 World Cup.
He mentioned that the medical team is closely monitoring both players’ injuries, with their rehabilitation progressing positively.
However, Bailey also admitted that the participation of Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood in the Pakistan tour is not certain.
Sources indicate that the Australian team management, keeping the T20 World Cup starting in February in mind, is unwilling to take any major risks.
Media reports suggest that Australia wants to adopt a cautious strategy regarding Pat Cummins’ availability to avoid any potential injury ahead of the major event.
In this context, there is also a possibility that some senior players may be rested for the series against Pakistan.
Australian officials, citing past examples, recalled that in the 2023 50-over World Cup, Travis Head was retained in the squad despite an injury and later proved highly effective in subsequent matches.
Decisions are being made keeping this model in view.
It is worth noting that if Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood are unavailable for the series against Pakistan, the Australian bowling lineup could become relatively less experienced, potentially giving Pakistan an advantage in home conditions.
It should also be clarified that cricket fans consider the anticipated series between Pakistan and Australia highly significant; however, the situation regarding the Australian players’ availability has made preparations for this series even more intriguing.
