DOHA: Federal Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, addressing the Doha Forum on Sunday, asserted that Pakistan has achieved macroeconomic stability and is advancing critical fiscal and energy reforms following its International Monetary Fund (IMF) program.
Highlighting positive indicators, the minister projected that the country’s IT services exports are expected to reach $4 billion in the current fiscal year, boosted by overall export improvement. He further noted that annual remittances from Gulf countries remain a robust source of foreign exchange, estimated between $18 to $20 billion.
Aurangzeb acknowledged setbacks, stating that devastating floods had reduced the country’s economic growth by 0.5 percent. To address such climate risks, he highlighted the importance of the IMF’s $1.3 billion Resilience and Sustainability Facility (RSF).
Central to his address was a determined push to strengthen bilateral cooperation with Qatar. He identified Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG), agriculture, and textiles as key sectors for enhanced partnership, alongside a strong emphasis on attracting climate investment.
“We have new opportunities in trade flows and technology,” Aurangzeb stated, noting increased partnership with Qatar in artificial intelligence and digital technologies. He announced that a prospective Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with Qatar would further solidify partnerships in energy and AI.
Looking ahead, the minister said infrastructure development under CPEC’s Phase II would promote business-to-business investment. He also emphasized the potential of Pakistan’s youth, stating that young freelancers could significantly increase their income by harnessing blockchain, AI, and digital skills.
Meanwhile more than 100 individuals, including a commander of a banned outfit, surrendered in Sui, Balochistan.
Commander Wadera Noor Ali Chakarani and his associates handed over their weapons to Mir Aftab Ahmed Bugti. The armed men laid down their weapons, raised Pakistan’s flag and pledged allegiance to the state.
Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti congratulated the commander and all those who surrendered for joining the national mainstream. He said the decision by Noor Ali Chakarani and over 100 others in Sui, Dera Bugti, was commendable.
