LOWER KURRAM: Unknown assailants opened fire on a passenger vehicle in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Lower Kurram district on Wednesday, killing at least six people, officials confirmed.
Police said the attackers ambushed the vehicle as it travelled through the area. Rescue teams shifted the victims’ bodies to the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital.
The gunmen fled the scene after the attack. Law enforcement launched a search operation and opened an investigation to identify and track down the perpetrators.
The attack came just weeks after tribal elders in Lower Kurram and Sadda signed a one-year peace agreement in July to end years of recurring clashes in the region.
During a jirga at the Frontier Corps Fort in Sadda, elders from the Sunni and Tori Bangash tribes signed the accord with district authorities and security officials under the framework of the Kohat Agreement.
Deputy Commissioner Ashfaq Khan hailed the accord as a “milestone for regional stability” and credited tribal leaders’ cooperation and the sacrifices of security forces for restoring peace in the district.
