ISLAMABAD: General Syed Asim Munir has become the second person in Pakistan’s history, after Field Marshal Ayub Khan, to be decorated with the five-star insignia of Field Marshal — the highest rank in the Pakistan Army.
On Tuesday, the Government of Pakistan approved his promotion in recognition of his strategic brilliance and decisive victory in Operation “Bunyān Mursūs,” ensuring national security and delivering a powerful response to the enemy within hours.
The official ceremony to decorate General Munir with the Field Marshal insignia was scheduled for Wednesday at the Presidential Palace, but it was postponed due to national mourning over the terrorist attack on a school bus in Khuzdar, Balochistan.
Since Pakistan’s inception, the armed forces have played a crucial role in safeguarding the country’s land, sea, and air borders.
While the constitution defines key military ranks such as Chief of Army Staff, General, Lieutenant General, Brigadier, and Major, the rank of Field Marshal stands above all — awarded for extraordinary leadership and exemplary service.
