RAWALPINDI: The Washington Times has hailed Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir as an “Iron Man” and a key figure for South Asia’s security.
The US daily described him as a disciplined soldier, able to take tough decisions. Observers say these qualities make him a potential strategic partner for US President Donald Trump.
The paper noted Munir’s popularity surged during Pakistan-India tensions. It said his calm resolve helped steer critical decisions, earning respect at home and abroad.
His leadership style, the Washington Times wrote, makes him a “natural partner” for Trump. Their recent meeting was termed highly significant amid strained Pakistan-India ties.
The report recalled Trump’s personal role in brokering a ceasefire between Islamabad and New Delhi—welcomed by Pakistan but rejected by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The paper credited Asim Munir with shaping Pakistan’s military strategy against threats from Afghanistan and Iran. It highlighted Pakistan’s arrest of the Kabul airport attack mastermind and his handover to the US, which Trump praised as proof of Pakistan’s commitment to counter-terrorism.
The Daily said counter-terrorism cooperation has revived Pak-US relations. It added that the Trump administration is working to restore ties, with Filed Marshal Munir playing a central role.
