CDF Asim Munir pays a tribute to submarine Hangur

ISLAMABAD: Hengor Day stands as a shining symbol of the submarine Hangor’s unmatched courage and Pakistan’s indomitable maritime defense, said Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir.

On December 9, 1971, the submarine Hangor sank the Indian naval ship INS Khukri and severely damaged INS Kirpan, shattering the pride of the Indian Navy.

Speaking on the significance of the day, Asim Munir stated that the Hangor crew displayed extraordinary bravery and resilience, leaving a mark on the enemy that remains vivid even today.

He emphasized that, just like in 1971, the Pakistan Navy continues to serve as a formidable shield at sea, safeguarding the nation’s maritime borders with unwavering strength.

He added that this day serves as a reminder that while Pakistan desires peace, it remains fully committed to protecting its sovereignty and homeland.

On the occasion, Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf announced that eight advanced Hangor-class submarines will soon become part of the Pakistan Navy, carrying forward Hangor’s glorious legacy.

He affirmed that the Pakistan Navy, just as in its proud past, remains fully prepared to respond firmly to any threat from the enemy.

The Pakistan Navy has also released a special documentary titled “Hadaf” on Hangor Day, based on the wartime diary of the submarine’s commanding officer, Vice Admiral (Retd.) Ahmad Tasneem.
