Another setback for BLA as regional powers tighten pressure on Afghanistan

QUETTA: The Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) has suffered another major diplomatic setback as Pakistan, China, Russia, and Iran prepare to intensify pressure on Afghanistan to dismantle terrorist sanctuaries operating within its borders.

In this sense, on September 25, a high-level meeting was held in New York where representatives of the four countries issued a clear warning to Kabul.

They urged the Afghan authorities to ensure that their territory is not used as a haven for the BLA or any other militant organizations involved in cross-border terrorism.

Furthermore, during the New York meeting, all four nations agreed that Afghanistan must take decisive and effective action against terrorist groups that threaten regional stability.

The participants focused on the fact that coordinated efforts were essential to dismantle networks that have long contributed to insecurity across the region.

Moreover, a follow-up meeting is scheduled to take place in Moscow on October 6. Diplomats from Pakistan, China, Russia, and Iran are expected to attend.

Pakistan and China will once again press Afghanistan to close down training and recruitment camps operated by the BLA and the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

The intelligence reports suggest that both groups BLA and TTP have established joint facilities inside Afghanistan, which are allegedly being used to plan and coordinate terrorist activities in Pakistan.

These centers have been a persistent source of concern for Islamabad, which has repeatedly called on Kabul to act against such elements.

This coordinated regional stance indicates a vital shift in approach, as it represents the first time that multiple neighboring powers have adopted a unified position against the BLA.

The development underlines growing recognition among regional stakeholders that terrorism and cross-border militancy pose a shared threat requiring collective response.

Meanwhile, the mounting diplomatic and strategic pressure signals diminishing space for its activities in the region.
