Pakistan’s airline industry has increased domestic and international airfares following a significant rise in jet fuel prices, according to airline sources.
The increase has affected passengers traveling on both local and overseas routes, with airlines citing higher operational costs as the primary reason behind the decision.
The revised prices apply to several major routes, including flights from Karachi to Lahore, Islamabad and other cities.
According to airline officials, fares for flights from Pakistan to destinations in the Middle East and Central Asian countries have increased by nearly 15,000 rupees per ticket.
The increase is even higher for long-haul international flights. For example, fares for flights departing from Pakistan to Toronto and Manchester have reportedly increased by around 28,000 rupees.
Airlines have indicated that the adjustment in fares was necessary to manage rising operational expenses and maintain service continuity.
In this sense, passengers and travel agents have expressed concern over the increase, particularly as higher fares may affect travel plans during upcoming seasons.
However, airline representatives maintain that the adjustments reflect the broader economic pressures faced by the aviation sector.
