ISLAMABAD: Security sources have reported a coordinated disinformation campaign by the Afghan Taliban and Indian media aimed at spreading false propaganda against Pakistan and its army.
The campaign, which utilises fake AI-generated videos and baseless news reports, emerged following recent border tensions and successful targeted operations by Pakistan. Sources state that an anti-Pakistan nexus between the Afghan Taliban regime and Indian media has been exposed.
The false claims include a statement from Afghan spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid, who propagated that the Afghan Taliban had captured Pakistani tanks. This was later exposed as a lie by a fact-check group, which confirmed the Russian-made tanks shown were already in use by Afghan forces.
Furthermore, Mr Mujahid issued a statement on his X account regarding the destruction of the Friendship Gate. Indian media then falsely presented the imagery as showing the gate on the Pakistani side. Security sources clarified that the Afghan Taliban destroyed the gate on the Afghan side with an IED, while the gate on the Pakistani side remains completely undamaged.
In another incident, a bomb blast in Kabul was attributed by Indian and Afghan media to an oil tanker explosion. According to security sources, the explosion was, in fact, the result of precision strikes carried out by the Pakistan Army.

The campaign also involved falsely declaring a citizen of North Waziristan, Adil Dawar, as a martyred Pakistani soldier. Mr Dawar himself has since appeared in a video message to reject all false claims about his death.
Security sources conclude that Indian media is actively creating fake and AI-generated videos for its own nefarious purposes.
