Agri-Business Expo 2025 Ignites Hopes for Sustainable Growth in Balochistan

QUETTA: The Agri Business & Linkage Building Expo 2025 concluded successfully in Quetta, marking a significant step towards fostering innovation, cooperation, and sustainable growth in Balochistan’s pivotal agriculture and livestock sectors.

The event was officially inaugurated by Secretary Livestock Muhammad Tayyab Lehri and Secretary Agriculture, with DG Animal Health & Extension Dr. Farooq Tarin also in attendance. The expo served as a dynamic platform, bringing together progressive farmers, business leaders, researchers, and agri-tech companies in a display of collective commitment to modernizing the province’s agricultural landscape.

A major highlight for visitors was the diverse range of stalls showcasing cutting-edge agricultural equipment, innovative agri-tech solutions, and research-based projects aimed at increasing productivity and sustainability. The enthusiastic participation from various stakeholders underscored a shared drive to transform traditional farming and livestock practices.

Senior officials touring the expo praised the efforts of all participants, emphasizing the critical role of such initiatives in bridging the gap between research and practical application. They reiterated that embracing innovation is no longer an option but a necessity for ensuring the long-term viability and economic contribution of these sectors.

The expo was widely seen as a direct reflection of Chief Minister Mir Sarfaraz Bugti’s vision for the province. His stated belief that “Agricultural growth is the foundation of Balochistan’s economic strength” served as the central theme of the event. By connecting farmers with modern technology and business opportunities, the expo aimed to lay the groundwork for a more resilient and prosperous agricultural economy, positioning Balochistan for a future of self-sufficiency and economic strength.

Meanwhile the Balochistan Assembly’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC) came down heavily on the provincial Irrigation Department for gross financial mismanagement, prolonged negligence, and a failure to recover hundreds of millions in outstanding dues.

Chaired by Asghar Ali Tareen, the committee expressed severe dismay that the department had failed to recover Rs 358.252 million from its Hub Division, despite clear directives issued over a year ago. The meeting reviewed audit paras for the fiscal years 2020-22, which revealed irregular expenditures of Rs 68.327 million on “unacceptable items” and overpayments at inflated rates, which audit officials attributed to weak financial controls.
