Zimbabwe beat Afghanistan in U 19 Tri-Nation series

HARARE: In the Under-19 Tri-Nation Series, the Zimbabwe team secured a 19-run victory over Afghanistan in a match played in Harare.

Batting first, Zimbabwe posted a total of 185 runs. In response, the Afghan side was bowled out for 166 runs in 41 overs.

It is noteworthy that the ongoing tri-nation series in Zimbabwe features Pakistan, Afghanistan, and the host nation Zimbabwe.

Currently, Zimbabwe leads the standings with 4 points from 3 matches, while Pakistan has accumulated 3 points from 2 matches, and Afghanistan has earned 1 point after playing 3 matches.

Afghanistan Under-19 and Zimbabwe Under-19 have faced each other in a handful of official Youth One-Day Internationals, mostly in multi-nation tournaments like the ongoing tri-series in Zimbabwe and past ICC Under-19 World Cups.

As of January 1, 2026, their head-to-head record stands close, with limited encounters overall.

In the recent Zimbabwe Under-19 OD Tri-Series 2025/26, their first meeting on December 25 in Harare was abandoned due to rain after being reduced to 25 overs, with Zimbabwe scoring 90 and Afghanistan reaching 68/1 while chasing a revised target of 91.

Their second clash on December 31 saw Zimbabwe post 185 all out in 47.3 overs, thanks mainly to Dhruv Patel’s 60, before bowling Afghanistan out for 166 in 40.5 overs to win by 19 runs.

Earlier, in the 2022 ICC Under-19 World Cup group stage in Trinidad, Afghanistan dominated with a 109-run victory.

These teams do not have frequent bilateral series, so direct matchups remain rare outside of preparation tours or global events, and Afghanistan has generally held the edge in completed games until Zimbabwe’s recent home success.

The Afghan team also lost their match against Pakistan after the men in green siezed a win on the last wicket .

Pakistan had chased down the target of 230 for the loss of 9 wickets in thriller a couple of days earlier.

The Pakistani Under 19 team is following this series after their sensational win in the Asia Cup at UAE.

Pakistan had beaten India with a huge margin of 191 runs in the final of the Under 19 Asia Cup in the last week.

It is worth mentioning that a young Pakistan A side had also won the Rising Stars Asia Cup in Doha.

Pakistan had also won the Hong Kong Super Sixes event.
