ISLAMABAD: Afghanistan has become a “fertile ground” for global terrorist organizations, including the Fitna-al-Khawarij (TTP), according to a report by the Sri Lanka Guardian.
The international journal claims the Taliban regime maintains a deep nexus with these groups, providing them a safe haven to launch cross-border violent operations.
The Nexus Exposed
According to the report, Afghanistan now serves as a sanctuary where terrorist groups operate with impunity. The United Nations further corroborates these findings, warning that the Taliban’s backing of these elements is spreading terrorism across the entire region.
Key highlights from the report include:
Direct Involvement: Fitna-al-Khawarij uses Afghan soil to orchestrate and execute direct attacks inside Pakistan.
Global Threats: Al-Qaeda and ISIS remain active and present within Afghan borders.
Strengthening Ties: The historical and ideological bonds between the Afghan Taliban and Fitna-al-Khawarij have grown more dangerous since 2021 rather than weakening.
Broken Promises
While the Taliban regime repeatedly vows that Afghan territory will not be used against other countries, international monitoring agencies continue to debunk these claims.
Experts suggest the regime’s inability—or refusal—to decouple from these militant groups poses a growing threat to regional and global security. The gap between the Taliban’s diplomatic rhetoric and the operational reality on the ground remains a primary concern for the international community.
