KABUL: A new World Bank report reveals that the Afghan Taliban allocated nearly half of the national budget to the security sector during the first seven months of the 2025 fiscal year.
According to the report, a total of 75.6 billion Afghanis was spent on security, accounting for 49 percent of total government expenditures.
The report notes that in October 2025, government spending in Afghanistan reached 24.3 billion Afghanis. During the same period, imports surged 21 percent, reaching 7.6 billion U.S. dollars.
The World Bank warned that the unusually high security expenditures under the Taliban remain a growing concern for the international community.
Critics argue that a large portion of resources is being directed toward elements that contribute to regional instability.
