ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Information Minister Ataullah Tarar said the military has killed 461 militants during ongoing operations against armed groups based in Afghanistan.

Tarar released details of Operation Ghazab-ul-Haq on Wednesday. He said Pakistani forces continue to target militant networks operating from Afghan territory.

According to the minister, Pakistani forces have killed 461 militants and wounded 855 others since the operation began.

He said the military destroyed 243 Afghan check posts and seized control of another 42 positions during the campaign.

Pakistani forces also destroyed 219 tanks, armored vehicles and artillery pieces used by militant groups, Tarar said.

He added that air strikes had effectively targeted 65 militant hideouts and support facilities across Afghanistan.

Pakistan has also delivered a clear message to the Taliban authorities in Afghanistan, Tarar said. Islamabad has told the Afghan Taliban regime it must choose between supporting militants or maintaining relations with Pakistan.

Separately, Masoud Pezeshkian, the president of Iran, told Shehbaz Sharif, Pakistan’s prime minister, that Tehran wants to avoid conflict with other countries in the region.
