Islamabad: Afghan nationals violently attacked police officers during a search operation in the Sarai Kharbuza and Kashmir Colony areas, injuring four policemen.
According to police, the operation was conducted to check illegal residents. When five Afghan nationals failed to produce valid residency documents, police tried to take them to the police station.
At that point, a large group of 50 to 60 Afghans launched a fierce attack on the police team.
The attackers kidnapped one policeman, locked him inside a house and set the house on fire.
They also snatched a government-issued SMG from the police. Additional police force reached the spot and rescued the officers.
Police have arrested 23 individuals involved in the attack and resistance.
A terrorism case has been registered against the accused under the Anti-Terrorism Act at Golra Police Station.
The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) has launched a search operation to apprehend the remaining fugitives.
