WEB DESK: The Interim Afghan Government has officially confirmed that Pakistani Air Force (PAF) jets carried out airstrikes on three Afghan provinces, as regional tensions escalate following days of cross-border clashes.
Taliban spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid confirmed that Kabul, Kandahar, and Paktia were bombed by PAF aircraft. However, in a carefully worded statement, Mujahid added that there were “no immediate reports of casualties” from the strikes.
The confirmation from Kabul aligns with earlier claims by Pakistani security sources, who reported that the Pakistan Armed Forces have significantly expanded the scope of Operation Ghazab-ul-Haq, launching effective airstrikes deep inside Afghanistan targeting key military installations of the Afghan Taliban regime.
According to Pakistani security sources, the latest and most expansive phase of the operation saw the Pakistan Air Force carry out precision strikes across multiple Afghan provinces, destroying what they described as “high-value military infrastructure.”
In the capital city of Kabul, security sources claimed that two brigade headquarters were completely destroyed. The strikes in southern Kandahar province were described as even more severe, with one corps headquarters and one brigade headquarters destroyed during the airstrikes. Sources added that an ammunition depot and a logistics base in Kandahar were also obliterated. Meanwhile, in Paktia province, a corps headquarters was destroyed in the effective air operation.
The Afghan government’s confirmation of the strikes, while downplaying casualties, marks a significant development, as Kabul rarely acknowledges the extent of damage from such cross-border operations. The Taliban spokesperson’s statement did not address the specific claims regarding destroyed military infrastructure.
The escalation marks one of the most serious flare-ups along the disputed frontier since the Afghan Taliban returned to power in 2021, with Pakistan demonstrating both the will and capability to strike targets deep inside Afghan territory. Pakistani officials have repeatedly stated that the operation is a response to unprovoked shelling on civilian settlements along
the border.
