9 Killed in horrific road accident on Faisalabad-Jhang Road

Jhang: Nine people lost their lives in a devastating traffic accident on the Faisalabad-Jhang Road.

According to rescue sources, the incident occurred near Kala Paqir when a passenger bus was involved in the crash, resulting in nine immediate deaths and leaving two others seriously injured.

Following the report, Deputy Commissioner Ali Akbar Bhindar and District Police Officer Bilal Iftikhar Kiani promptly arrived at the scene and directed authorities to provide urgent medical care to the injured.

Eyewitnesses stated that excessive speed caused the accident. Rescue 1122 teams administered first aid on site before transferring the wounded to DHQ Hospital.

District officials expressed deep regret over the tragic loss of precious lives in the incident.

Over the past few years, traffic accidents in Pakistan’s Punjab province have remained a major public safety concern, with hundreds of thousands of incidents reported annually and a steady rise in fatalities despite efforts to improve road safety.

In 2023, around 420,387 road traffic crashes resulted in 3,967 deaths, followed by 467,561 incidents in 2024 that claimed 4,139 lives.

The trend worsened in 2025, when 482,870 accidents were recorded, leading to 4,791 fatalities—a sharp 19 percent increase in deaths compared to the previous year along with nearly 570,000 injuries.

Motorcycles have been involved in about 75 percent of these cases, making riders particularly vulnerable, while pedestrians account for over 10 percent of victims.

Major urban centers like Lahore, Faisalabad, and Multan consistently report the highest numbers, with Lahore alone seeing over 88,000 incidents in 2025.

Factors such as speeding, poor enforcement, and increasing vehicle density contribute to the problem, prompting calls for stricter measures like speed limits and better emergency response.
