Panjgur: Two people were killed and one sustained injury in a horrific road accident in Panjgur.
According to Levies sources, the collision occurred between two vehicles, resulting in the deaths of two individuals while another was injured in the Goran area of Panjgur.
The bodies and the injured person were shifted to the Teaching Hospital Panjgur for medical treatment and legal formalities.
Just two days earlier, a similar tragic crash on the Quetta–Karachi National Highway claimed five lives after two vehicles collided head-on.
Likewise, in the past week, two separate road accidents in Lasbela and Uthal caused multiple fatalities, adding to the growing list of deadly mishaps across the province.
Reports suggest that more than 900 people have lost their lives in road accidents across Balochistan in the past year — an alarmingly high figure for a sparsely populated region.
The frequency and severity of these accidents highlight the grave condition of road safety in the province.
One of the major causes is the absence of dual carriageways on key routes.
Balochistan, which borders Iran and Afghanistan, serves as a key trade corridor for goods transported throughout Pakistan.
Heavy vehicles such as trucks, dumpers, and containers often travel on narrow and deteriorated roads, leading to fatal collisions.
Additionally, many roads in the province are in poor condition, riddled with potholes that frequently cause serious accidents.
The mountainous and uneven terrain also includes sharp curves where vehicles often crash while turning.
Over-speeding and reckless overtaking remain other major contributing factors.
Although work is underway to improve the highway infrastructure, it will take significant time and effort to ensure safe and reliable travel facilities for the people of Balochistan.
Both the transporters as well as the passengers have asked the provincial government and the department of the national highways to provide the people with a better roads-infrastructure.
