NEW YORK: At the launch of the “Victims of Terrorism Association Network,” Jawad Ajmal, the Counsellor at the Pakistan Mission, exercised his right of reply (ROR) to counter what he called baseless allegations by an Indian delegate.
Ajmal highlighted the suffering of people in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). He stressed that their plight as victims of state terrorism must not be ignored.
“We heard the remarks from one delegation,” Ajmal said. “However, they continue to ignore the reality: the oppressed people of IIOJK need urgent attention. They are suffering under severe state-sponsored terrorism, with 900,000 Indian troops occupying the region.”
He called on the international community to hold those responsible for what he described as state terrorism and crimes against humanity in IIOJK accountable. “India’s perpetrators of this terrorism must face justice,” Ajmal stated.
Ajmal reiterated Pakistan’s appeal to the global community, particularly the United Nations Security Council (UNSC). He urged the UNSC to compel India to stop its state terrorism and oppression of the Kashmiris.
He emphasized the need for UNSC resolutions that call for a free and fair plebiscite in Jammu and Kashmir, allowing the locals to decide their own future.
Ajmal added that no statements or remarks could conceal the ongoing oppression of the Kashmiri people or justify India’s illegal actions under the guise of state sponsorship of terrorism.
The exchange at the Victims of Terrorism Association Network took place amid rising tensions between nuclear-armed Pakistan and India, especially regarding Jammu and Kashmir.
