ISLAMABAD: Pakistan-Afghanistan border tensions escalated after an cross-border incursion in Balochistan’s Gulistan sector, with Pakistani security forces destroying several Afghan Taliban checkposts in a swift retaliatory operation.
According to security sources, Afghan Taliban fighters attempted to enter Pakistani territory and carry out an attack near the Pakistan-Afghanistan border. Pakistani security forces responded immediately, targeting positions used by Afghan Taliban fighters in the Chaman sector.
Sources said several Afghan Taliban fighters were killed during the retaliatory action, while intermittent firing between the two sides continued in the area.
Three Afghan Taliban Checkposts Destroyed
During the operation, Pakistani forces targeted and destroyed the Matin Thana checkpost belonging to the Tehreek-e-Taliban Afghanistan.
Sources further claimed that the Pista Thana checkpost was also destroyed during the operation. The Al-Marjan Thana checkpost was among the other positions targeted by Pakistani forces.
The reported strikes came after an attempt by Afghan Taliban fighters to cross into Pakistani territory in the Gulistan sector.
Intermittent Firing Continues Along Border
Security sources said the situation remained tense following the operation, with intermittent firing continuing between Pakistani security forces and Afghan Taliban fighters.
Pakistani forces have been placed on high alert in the sensitive border area, while additional security measures have been introduced to prevent any further cross-border infiltration or attack.
Earlier reporting by Pakistani media, citing security sources and state-run APP, also said Afghan Taliban fighters had attempted to enter Pakistani territory in the Gulistan sector and that several fighters were killed in the subsequent Pakistani response.
The latest confrontation adds to continuing security tensions along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, particularly in Balochistan’s Chaman-Gulistan area.
The situation remains fluid, and further developments are expected as security forces continue monitoring the border.
