NEW YORK: US-Iran talks in New York lasted for three hours, with discussions reportedly focusing on a possible agreement and Iran’s conditions for reopening the strategically important Strait of Hormuz.
According to a US official, President Donald Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff and his son-in-law Jared Kushner met with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi as part of the diplomatic contacts between Washington and Tehran.
Trump confirmed the meeting and described it as a positive development. He said it was in Iran’s interest to reach a deal and noted that Witkoff and Kushner had held a “very good meeting” with Iranian intermediaries.
“We’ll see what happens,” Trump said, adding that another meeting had been scheduled for the near future.
Iranian media reported that the meeting took place at the request of the United States. The reports said Iran also used the talks to present its conditions for reopening the Strait of Hormuz, a major global shipping route.

According to Iranian media reports, Tehran is seeking an end to the blockade, the release of Iranian assets and an end to the war on all fronts as conditions for reopening the waterway.
The three-hour meeting marks another diplomatic contact between the two sides as efforts continue to address tensions and explore the possibility of a broader agreement.
