NEW YORK: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has arrived in New York to participate in the high-level segment of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), where he is scheduled to address world leaders on September 25, 2026.
The prime minister arrived in New York on Monday with a small Pakistani delegation. Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, received him upon arrival. Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United States, Rizwan Saeed Sheikh, is also accompanying the diplomatic engagements surrounding the visit.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Muhammad Ishaq Dar and Special Assistant Tariq Fatemi are accompanying Prime Minister Shehbaz during the visit.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is scheduled to deliver Pakistan’s address at the 81st UN General Assembly on September 25. According to Pakistan’s Foreign Office, his speech will present Pakistan’s perspective on regional and global developments, with emphasis on dialogue, diplomacy and peaceful resolution of disputes.
The prime minister is expected to draw international attention to the situations in Jammu and Kashmir and Palestine. Pakistan’s UN ambassador has also said that Kashmir and Palestine will feature prominently in the prime minister’s address.
The Foreign Office said Pakistan will also highlight issues including sustainable development, climate change, counter-terrorism, Islamophobia, global economic challenges, UN reform and concerns facing developing countries.
Bilateral Meetings With World Leaders Planned
During his stay in New York, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is scheduled to participate in several high-level meetings and hold bilateral discussions with world leaders and other senior officials.
He is also expected to meet the United Nations Secretary-General. These engagements are intended to provide an opportunity for Pakistan to discuss regional and international developments and its priorities on issues of global importance.

The prime minister’s visit comes as Pakistan prepares to present its diplomatic priorities before the international community during the UN General Assembly’s high-level week.
