ISLAMABAD: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Pakistan Emir Hafiz Naeemur Rehman has strongly criticized the federal government for ignoring public hardships, announcing a decisive long march toward Islamabad on September 20.
Speaking at a press conference, he stated that the severe economic distress faced by ordinary citizens is being overlooked by political stakeholders, while official relief packages have failed to address ground realities.
Rehman pointed out that while global oil prices spiked following regional conflicts, the domestic hike in petroleum products heavily outpaced international adjustments due to excessive government levies.
He demanded the immediate withdrawal of the petroleum levy, a cap on Independent Power Producer (IPP) charges, subsidies on basic food items like flour, and a strict ban on luxury imports.
Highlighting organizational preparations, he confirmed that caravans from Punjab, Sindh, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will converge on the capital.
Jamat-e-Islami’s Protests on Real Public Concerns
The ongoing mobilization by Jamaat-e-Islami marks a critical shift toward centering systemic economic grievances—such as runaway inflation, heavy utility burdens, and unbearable fuel taxes—rather than partisan politics.
By taking prolonged sit-ins and upcoming march demonstrations directly to the streets, JI aims to mount pressure on policymakers to alleviate the financial stranglehold on the middle and working classes.
