ISLAMABAD: Thunderstorm and Torrential Rain Hit Islamabad, bringing intense showers, strong winds and lightning to the capital and several other parts of Pakistan. The heavy downpour inundated low-lying areas, disrupted traffic and caused intermittent power outages in various sectors.
Strong winds accompanying the rainfall also caused damage in different parts of Islamabad. A concert stage at the Sports Complex reportedly collapsed during the storm, while falling trees in Sector F-10 damaged vehicles and affected the normal flow of traffic.
The sudden change in weather provided relief from hot and humid conditions but also created difficulties for residents, particularly in areas vulnerable to water accumulation.
Thunderstorm and Torrential Rain Hit Islamabad, Causing Urban Disruptions
The heavy rain resulted in significant water accumulation on roads and in low-lying areas of the capital. Commuters faced difficulties as rainfall affected traffic movement across several locations.
Strong winds added to the disruption, with fallen trees and damaged structures reported in some areas. Authorities and relevant departments are expected to remain alert as further rainfall is forecast during the coming days.
The weather system was not limited to Islamabad, with several districts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa also experiencing heavy rain, thunderstorms and strong winds.
Heavy Rain Brings Relief to Peshawar
Peshawar received rainfall following a period of intense heat, bringing noticeable relief to residents. The drop in temperatures offered a respite from the prevailing hot weather.
Haripur also witnessed rain accompanied by strong winds. In Paniya, two people were reportedly injured after a tree fell, while accumulated rainwater affected roads in different parts of the district.
Batkhela experienced torrential rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning. The heavy showers caused streams and drains to swell and also disrupted parts of the power transmission system.
Swabi was another area affected by heavy rainfall, with water accumulating in low-lying locations and creating difficulties for residents.
More Rain Expected Across Pakistan
The Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast additional rainfall in several parts of the country until September 17.
Rain and thunderstorms are expected in Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, while various parts of Punjab may also experience further showers during the forecast period.
The weather department has also warned that heavy rainfall could create risks of urban flooding in vulnerable low-lying areas. Residents are advised to exercise caution during periods of intense rain, particularly near drainage
