BIRMINGHAM: Babar Azam breaks silence ahead of the Birmingham Test, saying he was surprised by the recent changes to the national Test squad but accepts the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) decision.

Speaking to the media in Birmingham, Babar said he learned about the changes later and believed the board must have had valid reasons for making them. He added that the PCB would be in a better position to explain the rationale behind selecting or dropping particular players.

Babar said changes in the team are common when results do not meet expectations. He also stressed that senior players have a greater responsibility to adapt and perform according to different playing conditions.

The Pakistan captain acknowledged that the team failed to deliver in its previous match, saying the side could not make a sufficient impact across all three departments. He indicated that the players needed to take responsibility and improve their performances.

Babar also spoke positively about Edgbaston, saying the Birmingham venue had been fortunate for him in the past. He expressed hope of producing another strong performance at the ground as Pakistan prepares for its Test assignment.

Addressing the changes to the squad, Babar described them as an opportunity for new players to demonstrate their abilities. He urged the newcomers to make full use of their chances and establish themselves in the national side.

The senior batter also responded to criticism that follows when players fail to perform. He acknowledged that scrutiny is inevitable when results are disappointing but pointed to his own performance in the most recent series, where he was named Player of the Series.
