LONDON: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has called for a National Assembly debate on news provinces over Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi’s remarks about the failure of the system.
Speaking to the media in London on Tuesday, Bilawal said Naqvi was expressing his own views when he spoke about the system’s failure, while he was presenting his own perspective. He also criticised Naqvi for rarely attending National Assembly sessions and urged him to participate more frequently.
Addressing the debate over the creation of new provinces, Bilawal said establishing new provinces was not the solution to Pakistan’s problems of inflation, unemployment and poverty. He argued that strengthening democracy and empowering people were more important to addressing these challenges.
Bilawal noted that resolutions on the matter had been unanimously passed by the Punjab and Sindh assemblies. He said the PPP respected the views of both the people and their elected representatives.
The PPP chairman called for the issue to be discussed in parliament, stressing that the opinions of elected representatives and the public should receive due consideration.
Bilawal further said the country’s future should not be left in the hands of a small group of businessmen. He reiterated that strengthening democratic institutions and ensuring greater public participation in decision-making were essential for tackling Pakistan’s economic and social challenges.
