KARACHI: A 15-year-old boy was shot dead during a robbery at his home in Karachi, leaving eight sisters without their only brother.
The teenager, identified as Rosham, died after armed men opened fire in Mehran City in the Manghopir area, his family said.
According to his father, six armed robbers broke into their home. Two of them wore police uniforms.
The family heard a noise and came out of their rooms. The robbers then opened fire.
A bullet struck Rosham in the chest. He died at the scene.
His father said the incident followed a series of robberies in the neighbourhood. He claimed that men wearing police uniforms had been carrying out robberies in the area for the past 20 to 25 days.
He also said the family had alerted police about the robberies.
Rosham was a matriculation student. He was also the only brother of eight sisters, making his death a devastating blow to the family.
Meanwhile, his relatives have refused to bury him until police arrest the suspects.
They have also warned of protests outside Naya Nazimabad and Bilawal House if authorities fail to apprehend those responsible.
The killing has once again highlighted Karachi’s persistent street-crime problem. At least 55 people have been killed in robbery-related incidents in the city this year, according to figures cited in the report.
For Rosham’s family, however, the latest death is more than another crime statistic. It has left eight sisters without the brother who was their only sibling of his kind.
