QUETTA: A major alleged scandal has emerged in Balochistan’s Irrigation Department over the sale of government vehicles and heavy machinery at prices allegedly far below their actual value, sources said.
Sources claimed that vehicles and machinery worth tens of millions of rupees were auctioned for only a fraction of their estimated value.
The allegations have prompted a probe into the auction process, they said.
Investigators are examining the machinery’s actual market value and the bidding process. They are also looking into the role of officials and other personnel involved in the auction.
Sources said authorities would assess any potential loss to the public exchequer if the allegations are proven.
Officials responsible for any wrongdoing could face strict action, they added.
Calls have also been made for a transparent investigation. Those calling for the probe want authorities to disclose details of the auctions, including the actual value of the vehicles and machinery and the prices at which they were sold.
The allegations have not been independently verified.
