MUZAFFARABAD: Newly elected Azad Kashmir Prime Minister Iftikhar Gilani has fulfilled his public pledge to restore internet services in the region, as the Azad Kashmir Home Department announced a phased restoration of internet connectivity from Monday.
According to a notification issued by the Home Department, internet services have been fully restored in Neelum district of Muzaffarabad Division. Services have also been completely restored in Haveli Kahuta district.
Meanwhile, Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) services have been restored in Mirpur and Bhimber. However, in Jhelum Valley, Bagh, Dhirkot and Kotli, DSL services have initially been restored only for educational institutions and banks.
According to the Home Department, educational institutions and banks will be provided with whitelisted DSL connections. Heads of the institutions seeking whitelisting will be required to submit affidavits and provide an undertaking that the internet service will not be used against national security.
However, internet services will remain suspended in Rawalakot and Sudhanoti districts of Poonch Division, according to the notification.
