PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has requested the federal government immediate deployment of additional Federal Constabulary platoons in Bannu and Lakki Marwat amid growing security concerns linked to what it described as self-styled police peace committees.
According to an official letter, the security situation in both districts has been described as alarming following threats to officials, disruption of official movement, road blockades, firing incidents and the withdrawal of police personnel from sensitive installations.
The police have recommended the deployment of a total of nine Federal Constabulary platoons in Bannu and Lakki Marwat. Five platoons have been requested for Bannu and four for Lakki Marwat.
According to the letter, the additional personnel would be deployed to secure key and sensitive locations, including the district jail, judicial complex, district administration offices, the deputy commissioner’s office, the Peshawar High Court’s Bannu Bench and grid stations.
Officials said the deployment is aimed at preventing any untoward incident, protecting key installations and ensuring the safety of lives and property.
