Imran Khan to Get Medical Care Under Jail Rules: Tarar

ISLAMABAD: Information Minister Attaullah Tarar said on Wednesday that Imran Khan’s medical care will continue under the jail manual and applicable laws.

Speaking at a news conference in Islamabad alongside Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry, Tarar said the government had always provided Khan with all medical facilities required under the Constitution and law. He said those facilities would remain available to him.

He said that the government would seek a review of the Supreme Court’s order allowing PTI founder Imran Khan to receive medical treatment at a private hospital. He said that the Supreme Court’s decision has been challenged through a review petition.

Tarar said the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) had never politicised anyone’s health. He accused PTI leaders of making the health of PML-N leaders a subject of political debate in the past.

He said every prisoner had the right to receive medical care under the Constitution and law. Khan had received medical treatment and facilities in the past and would continue to receive them, he added.

“There is no ambiguity over the treatment issue,” Tarar said. He added that prisons provide medical facilities according to the jail manual and the same procedure would apply to Khan.

The minister said health issues should remain separate from politics. He said the government would ensure medical care based on the Constitution, law and prison rules rather than give the issue a political dimension.

Tarar said the government wanted the Supreme Court to review the private-hospital aspect of its order. He said the legal question was whether the same right applied to all prisoners.

“This is a legal matter and should not be politicised,” he said.
