SYDNEY: On the first day of the opening Test match in Darwin, visiting team Bangladesh delivered a surprising performance to secure a strong position against Australia.
After Australia won the toss and elected to bat, stellar bowling from the visitors bowled them out for just 198 runs.
Steve Smith held one end of the innings together as the top scorer with 71 runs, though he was fortunate during the innings when an appeal for a caught-behind was turned down due to a flawed technology decision.
Bangladesh took a review after the umpire’s not-out ruling, but Snickometer technology could not confirm an edge.
During the post-match press conference at the end of the day, a journalist asked Smith if he had edged the ball, to which he replied, “Yes, I think so.”
In response to another question, he admitted, “Yes, I was lucky; sometimes luck is on your side.
” Regarding his trust in technology, he stated that it is good—adding that while maybe there was no edge, he certainly felt something, and if the umpire had given him out, he would have walked.
