KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah chaired a high-level meeting regarding the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD), where officials noted that banned militant and insurgent groups remain an ongoing security challenge for the province.
Provincial Home Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar reported a significant 76 percent decrease in terrorist incidents across Sindh, noting a drop from 37 cases in 2025 down to 9 in 2026. Sindh IG Police Javed Alam Odho stated that out of the 9 incidents reported in 2026, 7 have been successfully traced and investigated, achieving a detection rate of roughly 78 percent.
Throughout 2026, the CTD conducted 918 intelligence-based operations, resulting in the arrest of 87 terrorists and the neutralization of 4 militants in encounters, alongside the recovery of over 2,000 kilograms of explosives.
Law enforcement also dismantled networks involved in attacks on police and railway tracks in northern Sindh.
Regarding the Karachi Training Center attack, the IG confirmed that 9 suspects have been arrested, a Joint Investigation Team has been formed, and investigations remain active.
To bolster future security, the CTD Fusion Center utilized advanced cellular, digital forensic, and crime data analysis during the year.
Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah emphasized upgrading the center with GPU-based modern infrastructure, AI-powered systems, and advanced surveillance tools, including anti-drone systems and armored vehicles.
Concluding the meeting, the Chief Minister directed authorities to strengthen intelligence-based operations, accelerate the procurement of modern security equipment, and prioritize the protection of strategic infrastructure, public transport, and foreign nationals across the province.
